Travel video about destination China.
China’s Imperial City is located in the centre of its ancient Middle Kingdom, a gigantic and inscrutable empire beyond the Great Wall. The Imperial City is entered through the Gates of Heavenly Peace. After seven years of construction, Ming Emperor Zhu Di moved into his newly-established palace complex in which over eight thousand people lived in almost a thousand rooms. The palace served as both a residential and governmental seat to the emperors of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. A stone’s throw away from the old Summer Palace is the Garden of Harmonious Unity that was the favourite garden of the Emperor’s household who retreated to its cool lakeside shores during the humid months of summer. Close to Badaling the Great Wall Of China extends majestically across misty mountains. It is the largest Man-made structure in the world and was erected to protect the country from invasion from the North. The gigantic wall represented the division of two very different cultures. On one side the Central Asian Nomads and on the other the highly developed civilisation of the emerging Chinese Empire. Shanghai is a Gigantic City and a meeting point of both east and west. The shoreline is without a doubt the city’s main focal point and is a combination of past, present and future and contains the historic monuments and eye catching buildings of a great city. Famous explorer Marco Polo referred to Suzhou as the ‘Venice of the East’, a city that is particularly famous for its gardens. Many of its extremely elegant buildings are remnants of a glorious past. Yunnan´s most famous site is the unique Stone Forest Of Shi Lin, a forest of rock that extends for 27,000 hectares. Hong Kong is a city of the superlative with glimmering skyscrapers that seem to take root in the sky and one elegant building after another with shining glass and hi-tech facades. Travel video about destination Argentina.
Argentina is the second largest country in South America and a captivating land of tango, adventure and breathtaking nature.Buenos Aires is the capital of Argentina and the most European city in South America with buildings that are reminiscent of bygone times. The mighty Plaza De Mayo is the historic heart of the city, along with the presidential palace, the Casa Rosada and the Catedral Metropolitana. Today the tango is performed in each corner of the city and in the nineteenth century poor immigrants from Italy and Spain settled in Buenos Aires. This explains the fiery temperament and deep melancholy that is expressed by the dances and is evident with each flick of the leg. In what was once the red light district with its whore houses of colourful corrugated iron taken from numerous ship wrecks, the tango was born. We visit an estanzia, a feudal residence of the beef barons who once settled on the endless plains of the pampas and who built their farmhouses according to the rustic designs of the nobility. From Salta Station we begin a fascinating train journey on the Tren A Las Nubes, the “train into the clouds",.which will climb to more than three thousand metres above sea level along one of the highest railroads in the world. The Los Glaciares National Park is a mixture of lakes, glaciers, mountains and untouched wilderness yet despite the harsh climate the local vegetation captivates due to its diversity. Our journey comes to an end. From north to south, through cities and pampas to glaciers and mountains, Argentina is a dream destination come true!

Wooden shells, high red tiled roofs with many little skylights, old signboards, town walls, ancient churches, domes and steeples, narrow streets and riverbanks, huge green areas and many flowers take us to a wonderfully calm and merry world. Beside the well known Octoberfest holder Munich and the medieval older town look keeper Nuremberg, Regensburg and Augsburg there are castles like the romantic Neuschwanstein that are waiting for the traveller. There are glittering lakes in the green pinewood like the Königssee and the Chiemsee, and mountaintops like the snow-capped Zugspitze. Though Bavaria is only one territory within the German territories everyone can feel it is quite different from the others. It is richer, friendlier and its atmosphere is more delightful than the country’s other territories.

Travel video about destination Mexico.
Mexico, land of the Maya and Aztec, temples and beaches and with a population of twenty-six million the bubbling metropolis of Mexico City is a maze of streets, flat roofs, skyscrapers and parks. Earthquakes, floods and civil wars created this ‘City Of The Aztecs’. Templo Mayor, the main temple of the Aztecs, lies in the centre of the city, in the large main square, Zocalo. The magnificent Catedral Metropolitana with its massive dimensions and fine stone masonry dominates the square, with equal prominence being given to the Palacinio Nacional, governmental seat of the Mexican President. In 1519, when the Spanish conquerors reached Tenochtitlan, capital of the Aztec kingdom, they discovered a lagoon paradise with floating gardens, Xochimilco, a labyrinth of lakes and canals, which today can be explored by boat. Known as the Pearl Of The Pacific, Acapulco is a world famous holiday resort of the rich and famous where luxury liners dock each day and endless golden sands beckon a swim under the Caribbean sun. Each evening, the famous cliff jumpers of Acapulco congregate when, from a height of 42 metres, they jump fearlessly from the top of the La Quebrada Cliff into the narrow bay below. In the legendary ruins of Palenque, numerous monuments of the Maya culture can be found such as a palace, and several pyramids and temples. From the air, there is a unique view of the lush growth of the impenetrable forests around Palenque, and of Mexico’s most beautiful waterfalls of Agua Azul. Chichen Itza is thought to have been built by the Mayas around 450 AD and over 500 years later the fighting TOLTEKEN took over the deserted city, which led to two hundred years of prosperity. Located in the north, Tequila is situated at the foot of the likewise named volcano and is world famous because it is here that the Mexican national drink is produced. But Mexico is much more than a drink…it is a feast for all the senses!

Travel video about destination Paris in France.
Paris is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. First established by the Celts, next used strategically by the Romans, then it served the extravagant lifestyle of the Sun King, Louis XIV until it became a hotbed of Revolution.
Champs-Élysée is surely one of the most beautiful avenues in the world. It has wide boulevards, shady corners, ambient street cafes and classic Parisian buildings that are decorated with flowers.
Since 1873, the Palais de l'Élysée has been the residence of the French President. At the beginning of the 17th century, Madame de Pompadour lived there and during the Revolution the liberated people cavorted in its luxurious rooms.
Through a small triumphal arch decorated with scenes of Napoleon's victorious army, there is the garden created by Leotre, the Jardin des Tuileries. A bridge and fountain are the focal points of this popular park, created in typical French style.
A modern glass pyramid and a fountain decorate the courtyard of the former Louvre Palace, which since the time of the Revolution has been transformed into a museum that contains the famous Louvre art gallery. Its collection of remarkable historic treasures and superb art collection make it one of the world's most famous museums with Leonardo Da Vinci´s masterpiece, the Mona Lisa, taking pride of place.
Situated on a small island on the River Seine is the Cathedral of Notre Dame, the 'Mother Church of the Nation'. Built on the foundations of a Roman temple and commissioned by the bishops Maurice and Eudes de Sully, it took almost 200 years to build this Gothic masterpiece.
Built at the end of the 19th century as a symbol of national revival, Montmartre's Sacre Coeur has the appearance of a white, fairy-tale palace with 237 steps that lead up to the main entrance of this extraordinary structure. Its Byzantine architecture and five cupolas are reminiscent of the Marcus Dome in Venice.
Of course, there are the dizzy heights of the Eiffel Tower and a great deal more. Paris is a wonderful festival of the senses!

Travel video about destination Chile.
Chile was given its name by the Incas who respectfully called it Chili, ‘the country in the south’. Santiago De Chile, the capital of Chile, is dignified, modest and European-looking and also lively, modern and full of Latin temperament. The Plaza De Armas is the heart of the city and the historic centre of colonial Santiago that contains the city’s most important buildings. The city of Valparaiso or, Paradise Valley, is around a hundred and twenty kilometres from the capital of Santiago De Chile on the Pacific coast. The city’s development was closely connected with its harbour which brought it wealth and power. Since the middle of the nineteenth century, escalators have rattled up and down the steep hills of the harbour city with forty five hills flanking the bay, each of them covered with a number of tiny wooden huts. Only a short journey on a gravel road and the Atacama Desert begins. At its centre it is the driest desert in the world where the forces of nature have turned it into an extraordinary landscape. The Atacama extends between the Pacific Ocean and the Cordilleras, an area of stone and sand that is perforated only by various frequently dried out salt lakes. For those ships that sailed around Cape Horn, Ancud represented a safe harbour on the journey north in which they could rest after sailing the stormy waters of the South Pacific. At a time when whales and seals were hunted in the Antarctic, Ancud served as a supply station along the route to the southern Polar sea. From the Atacama Desert in the north to as far as the stormy Tierra Del Fuego in the south, Chile is a country rich in contrast. Volcanoes, arid deserts, salt lakes, lively geysers, sandstone mountains and a cosmopolitan city. All of this is to be found in Chile, a country at the end of the world!

Unusually clean, fresh air, dense, dark green pine forests, sparkling lakes among seemingly endless forests, bright blue sky, wide rivers, green grass in contrast with red-painted houses with white doors and window-frames… That’s Sweden. Vast free landscapes where mass of flowers bloom in May and trees glitter in unrealistic colors in September. Among the plains, the lakes and the hills ancient cities are located: the red-bricked Malmö, the port Gothenburg, the medieval Ystad, Helsingör and Helsingborg, and the university town Uppsala which is always full of life. Stockholm, built between Lake Malaren and Baltic Sea, rivals any European capital city. Near to it, there are castles which enchant the travellers, for instance Skokloster Castle or Gripsholm Castle.

Travel video about destination Myanmar.
Myanmar is a land of golden pagodas in which rivers, paddy fields and Buddhism dominate the lives of this country’s people who are made up of a variety of ethnic groups. But behind the bamboo curtain is a sleepy fairy tale land.Yangon is a river city and the capital of Myanmar. It is surrounded by India, China, Laos and Thailand. Few cities in Asia boast such a fascinating mêlée of tribes and cultures. A tranquil harmony of churches, pagodas, Hindu temples and mosques. The Chaukhtatkyi Pagoda contains one of the largest prone Buddha statues in the world. Its length makes up for its lack of artistry as it is seventy metres long! The Shan State Express is a sonorous name for a unique train that travels to the north of Myanmar and to the legendary kingdom of the Shan. The railroad travels in a zigzag up the mountains which enables it to negotiate severe slopes that would otherwise be impossible for it to climb vertically. It provides a fascinating insight into the culture and everyday life of the Shan people. The city of Pyin U Lwin, that is also known as Meymo, was once a British military base. Even today the city still has a certain air of nostalgia and passengers are offered various refreshments as the train journey normally takes more than twelve hours. Ox carts transport visitors to one of the most interesting buildings in Mingun, the Mingun Pagoda. It was designed to be the world’s largest pagoda. Huge numbers of workers built this seventy two metre wide and fifty metre high building. Bagan is the country’s ancient capital city. Prior to visiting the largest area of Buddhist ruins in the world visitors can enjoy both traditional puppet shows and dance. Classical myth and legend make up this theatrical treat of which each puppeteer is responsible for up to sixty strings. Any journey through Myanmar is a journey into the past and to a hidden world of dreams and mystique. This gateway to paradise is slowly opening up and revealing a splendid land of bygone times!

Travel video about destination Brazil.
Brazil is a country of both the superlative and also amazing contrast, with dynamic metropolises, cultural centres and untouched nature. It is the largest country on the South American Continent. We begin our journey in Rio De Janeiro, the secret capital of Brazil, a veritable firework display of unashamed joie de vivre, football, samba and religion. The focal point of today’s Rio is the monumental glass cone of the Catedral Metropolitana that measures eighty metres high and looks like a Mexican pyramid. The Rua Do Ouvidor, with its elegant old buildings and splendid shops, is a reminder of the city’s historical and commercial importance. Portuguese settlers founded the city and sugar cane and gold made Rio’s colonial rulers extremely rich. In former times the coastal towns were protected by fortresses and canons. Paraty was one of those romantic locations, south of Rio on the Costa Verde, a gem dating back to Brazil’s colonial times. Around five hundred kilometres north of Rio and deep within the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, is a most remarkable place. Ouro Preto was discovered at the end of the seventeenth century by Portuguese gold prospectors who discovered ‘black gold’ that changed colour due to its iron content. São Paulo is one of the mega cities of the twenty first century and with a population of twenty million it is the economic heart of Brazil. The railway helped to transport cotton and later coffee, and its large station, with British-designed clock tower, became an important symbol. Brazil is synonymous with sunshine, samba and exotic nature, a dream destination full of both adventure and constant fun!

Travel video about destination Singapore.
Singapore is a city of gardens and the heart of South East Asia. Its history began in 1819 with Thomas Stamford Raffles, a young official who worked for the British East India Company. Raffles estimated that the natural harbor was perfect for trading ships, so he bought the land from the Sultan of Johor and founded a trading settlement.
As a free port, Singapore attracted trading ships from all over the world and today, 4 million people live here on an area that covers 640 square kilometres.
In June each year, there is an exciting boat race in Marina Bay known as the Dragon Boat Race, that features magnificently painted dragon boats with hand-carved heads and tails accompanied by the sound of frenetic drumbeats.
Dating back to colonial times, British influence is omnipresent, whether the Cricket Club or the Parliament, traditional English spirit rules despite Singapore's Independence.
The World Famous Raffles Hotel is situated in the Colonial District near the Singapore River. In the hotel's Ashanti Bar, it was customary to throw expired peanut shells directly onto the floor and at the same time, reverently sip a Singapore Sling, the national drink.
The Singapore Zoo is one of the finest in the world in which the animals can roam freely, their territory being surrounded by a landscaped ditch. Approximately 2,800 animals live in the spacious enclosures and even those from the world's coldest regions can be observed both below and above water, thanks to cleverly designed viewing areas.
A complete mix of ethnic cultures, there's Chinatown, Little India and the Arab Street Quarter in which there are mosques, women wear burqas and there is all the hustle and bustle of a bazaar.
Singapore is an exotic city of skyscrapers, a cultural melting pot and the exciting gateway to South East Asia!

New York, the Big Apple for the locals, is the largest city of the United States. Its most famous sight is the monumental Statue of Liberty, but there are the famous skyscrapers like the Empire State Building or the Rockefeller Center, while the twin towers of the World trade Center are sadly missed. Along the streets cabs hunt for customers. The lung of the city is Central Park, the paradise of joggers and dog owners. The Wall Street is the center of the world of money, while the Broadway is the same for Arts. Famous theatres, museums, the cafes and clubs of Greenwich Village and the renewed places of the old docks await the visitors here.

India is a subcontinent with a long history, a land of legend, fantasy and reality.A country that extends from the Himalayas in the north to the semi-desert terrain and tropics of the south. A place of incredible contrasts and fascinating splendour. Delhi is the political and administrative capital of India and a melting pot of both culture and religion. A constantly expanding metropolis built on the site of twelve former cities and centre of power for almost a thousand years. Jama Masjid, the Friday Mosque, is one of ancient Delhi’s main landmarks that was bequeathed to the city by the mogul king, Shah Jahan and close to the mosque is the bazaar district of Chandni Chowk, a busy commercial area. The white temples of Ranakpur are the sanctuaries of the Jains and are situated in a picturesque valley to the west of the Aravalli Mountains north of Udaipur. At around the same time that Buddhism was introduced to the area, Jainism also arrived, the religion of the country’s great hero, Mahavira. Rajasthan is the Land Of The Maharajas in all its splendour, a living fairytale beneath the desert sky. Agra was once the imposing metropolis of the mogul monarchy and today the city has lost nothing of its mediaeval atmosphere. Calcutta, or Kolkata, as it has been known since 2001, is the capital of West Bengal and also the second largest city in India. A city of contrasts that could not be more striking. Each morning hundreds of people go to the Howrah Bridge to bathe on the banks of the Hooghly River, a tributary of the sacred River Ganges. In 1853 Bombay had its first railroad and the Indian rail network was soon extended. The Victoria Terminus was built, one of the most impressive train stations in the world. Incredible India, a remarkable country that has always fascinated travellers by the amazing diversity of its people, culture and landscapes.

Finland is a land of a thousand lakes and eternal forests, a land of log cabins and Orthodox churches - a midsummer’s dream in the extreme north of Europe.Helsinki, ‘The Daughter of the Baltic’, ‘The Gibraltar of the North’, a dividing line between east and west and a modern and liberal minded metropolis. Founded in 1550 by Swedish king, Gustav Vasa, as a trading centre, in 1812 Tsar Alexander The First made it the capital of the Principality Of Finland. Turku is the oldest city in Finland and is the country’s first capital city from where Finnish culture was born. It is still evocative of the Middle Ages. The sea, a magnificent island landscape and picturesque timber houses are typical of one of the oldest cities in the Gulf Of Bothnia, Uusikaupunki. It was there in 1712 that a peace treaty was signed between Russia and Sweden and this small, quiet town has a long maritime history. Further north is a town of seafarers and traders, Kokkola, of which the old town boasts the largest number of timber built houses in Finland. The cleric, Anders Chydenius, once lived here and laid the foundation of Liberalism, the freedom of both religion and trade. Oulu is the flourishing centre of Northern Finland. Along with its many green areas this city by the sea comes alive during the spring and summer months. Despite the harsh climate, tropical plants are popular in the city. The hilly landscape of the spacious Pallas Ounastunturi National Park is located in the north west, close to the Swedish border. Yellow-green reindeer moss and dense layers of many other varieties grow on the seemingly endless hills of primeval stone and gneiss. The plant life of this region always surprises those who encounter it for the first time. Finland is a country that boasts more lakes than any other. It is full of picturesque, natural beauty, unique cultural treasures and historic locations: a tranquil paradise set in the extreme north.

South Korea is a land of ancient tradition and contemporary life, a fascinating world…with five thousand years of history. Seoul is the country’s economic and cultural centre, a metropolis of twelve million inhabitants who are proud of their ancient culture. The War Museum is a reminder of the Forgotten War when the United States of America and twenty other countries took part in a United Nations military operation to support South Korea against the forces North Korea and China. Thirty kilometres south of Seoul is the fortress town of Suwon where at the end of the eighteenth century the Hwaseong Fortress was built, now a World Heritage Sight. South Korea’s most famous monastery is located in the Gaya-San National Park. Today the complex and its ninety buildings have become one of the main Buddhist centres in the East.. Tumuli Park is situated in the centre of Kyong Ju, former capital of the Silla Kingdom and contains twenty three royal tombs that look from the outside like large green hills. A huge number of valuable finds were made here thus the National Museum was created in which more than a hundred and fifty thousand exhibits from prehistoric times right up to the Joseon Dynasty are on display. Jeju island is a unique holiday paradise, a volcanic island with temples, waterfalls, tea plantations and several leisure facilities. For Koreans as well as the Japanese, Jeju Island has, due to its tropical climate, become a very popular honeymoon destination. When during dinner a volcano erupts and laser gods battle against each other, the Korean people are reminded of the fact that they have withstood invasion by the Mongols, Chinese and Japanese. At the climax of the show a fiery dragon appears: his sole task to protect glorious South Korea!

One country and two lifestyles, Vietnam has opened up its borders. It is a country of beautiful landscapes, amicable people and a great cultural heritage.Hanoi is North Vietnam’s lively capital city located in the north of the country and set amid the delta plains of the Red River. The Chua Mot Cot Pagoda is one of the oldest religious buildings in Hanoi and is a temple built upon a single column in the centre of a small lake. On the shores of the Song Huong, Giang in the heart of Vietnam is a former royal city and today’s provincial capital of Hué. Nine mighty canon are the symbolic guards of the historic citadel. Beyond its defences are five hundred hectares that contain the Imperial City and also the Forbidden Purple City. Da Nang’s Cham Museum contains a fine collection of Cham sculpture from the surrounding provinces. It boasts more than three hundred exhibits divided into ten rooms, with sandstone deities, monsters and heavenly dancers. With nearly six million inhabitants, Saigon is also known as Ho Chi Minh City. The Jade Pagoda, the Temple of the Jade Emperor, highlights the country’s religious faith. Travel video about destination Norway.
Norway is a fascinating land in the extreme north of Europe where both magic and fairytales are very much alive. It has crystal clear lakes and rivers, snow covered mountains, idyllic fishing villages and endless beaches that are only accessible by boat.Although the Norwegian metropolis of Oslo is a modern city it continues to be inspired by the lively spirit of its past traders, fighting men and seafarers. Oslo is a harbour town that lies well sheltered at the end of a fjord and in the ninth century it was much appreciated by the Vikings who travelled throughout the known world, plundering much of it! Bergen’s main tourist attraction is the Bryggen district that originated in the middle of the fourteenth century when it was heavily influenced by the North German Hanseatic Office. The city not only boasts a fascinating history but also a number of music festivals and it was the birthplace of world famous composer Edvard Grieg. Trondheim is Norway’s historic capital in which the country’s kings have been crowned. The Nidaros Domkirke is the most splendid Gothic cathedral in northern Europe. It was built on the bones of Holy Olav. For several centuries it has been a place of pilgrimage and since the Middle Ages the Norwegian kings were crowned and also entombed within its walls. The small village of Nusfjord is located in front of a captivating backdrop of mountains. Due to its unique location it looks more like a high mountain village than a fishing settlement. It is both an historical as well as a cultural treasure. It is easy to understand why the descendants of the Vikings are so proud of their fascinating home in the extreme north. Norway, a country bursting with breathtaking and untamed beauty!

Travel video about destination Laos.
Laos is a tropical country in the heart of Indochina and was once known as ‘The realm of a million elephants’. Set amid mountains and surrounded by China, Thailand, Cambodia and Myanmar, Laos lay undiscovered for many years but today it is gradually opening its doors and its dreamlike royal cities, contemplative temple complexes, mysterious plains and ethnic mountain villages are now accessible to all. The capital, Vientiane, originated at the point at which the first navigable section of the Mekong River joins with the Gulf Of Thailand, once an important trading route to South China. We travel north into the pure Asia of bygone times, a land full of adventure where there is little tourism, past many villages with small markets at the roadside and various temple complexes. Most of Laos consists of rugged mountain areas and only a small number of roads connect the country’s few large towns. We repeatedly pass through large valleys flanked by densely wooded mountain slopes until karst covered mountains appear and reveal yet another captivating landscape. Amid this romantic area on the banks of the Mekong River is a town that is one of Laos’ most impressive historic destinations, Luang Prabang, which became the official residence of the monarchy in 1453 and remained so for several centuries. Thirty five monasteries that accommodate around seven hundred monks as well as a thousand novices and also the city’s many splendid temples highlight the deep religious faith that determines the everyday life of Luang Prabang. Laos is one of the most fascinating countries in South East Asia: a sleepy paradise that is slowly awakening. It is a land trapped somewhere between age-old traditions and a modern way of life.

The characteristic white-walled buildings of Santorini are standing upon each other in a happy disorder. The narrow alleys show us a new miracle at each turn. The top of our house is the other house’s balcony, from where there is a perfect view on the dark blue water of the Aegean Sea. The venetian blinds summon the color of the blue sky, the rows of cubic houses are sometimes broken by a blue-domed temple or a windmill. The balconies are full of geranium. The smell of gyros is in the air, from the cafes we hear the bouzouki, and the sight of the sunset from the taverns is unforgettable. The sun is scorching, one can smell the salty air and hear the seagulls, while down below the white boats sail towards their unknown destination.

Travel video about destination Sibenik in Croatia.
On Croatia’s Mediterranean-like coast, one of Dalmatia’s most beautiful cities is situated within a sheltered bay, the mediaeval city of Šibenik. Sveti Jakov, the Holy Jakob Cathedral, was its architectural masterpiece and today the most important sacred Renaissance building in Dalmatia. The oldest of the city’s three castle complexes has a magnificent view across the red tiled roofs of the old town. Where today a cemetery occupies this strategic location, this was once the defensive centre of the city until the fortress that was located here was destroyed by lightning. From 1797 to 1918 Šibenik was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, interrupted by a short period of French occupation. Next, the Second World War, and then numerous warring factions. Outside the remains of the double city walls and a Franciscan monastery church, is a small monastery garden, a tranquil place whose splendour captivates and reminds those who come here of the city’s long and dramatic history. Today it is a splendid mirror that reflects the city’s dramatic and colourful past.

Travel video about destination Sopron in Hungary.
In 1921 the border city of Sopron agreed to remain part of Hungary, a fact still commemorated by way of its Fountain Of Fidelity and Marian Column. It is a small city with a long history and whose historic old town is home to Hungary’s most Gothic buildings and magnificent ancient structures. Scarbantia was what the Romans called this former village in their province of Pannonia, later developing it into a city of which many original elements have remained in tact. The later addition of a mediaeval city wall which followed typical Roman plans ensured the survival of the city. Due to a devastating fire in 1676, the city was subsequently rebuilt according to Baroque design. The view across the rooftops of the old town, the Church Of Mary and the narrow streets, is quite overwhelming, an historical work of art. Each corner of the main square shows something different, with the elegant County Authority House and its monumental column portico stealing the show. The mediaeval city wall mostly follows the oval town plan of Roman times, the exterior Barbakane looking particularly impressive. Today the city has become a Baroque gem with a mediaeval heart.
Sopron, pearl of Transdanubia!

Zagreb is the political and cultural heart of Croatia, an amiable capital city located at the intersection of Central, Eastern and Southern Europe and a city that holds many memories of the Danube Monarchy. Zagreb originated in the Middle Ages from two rival settlements on neighbouring hills, the bishop's seat of Kaptol which is dominated by its cathedral and the free city of Gradec which was its political centre. They both formed the city’s Upper Town. The cathedral dominates the Kaptol district, its two steeples towering above the old city. The city’s marvellous Botanical Garden contains an array of wonderful natural sights. It boasts ten thousand tree and plant varieties including alpine, Mediterranean, and the exotic. Small ponds with water plants are also included in the four point seven hectare gardens. An imposing arcaded facade forms the entrance to the Mirogoj Cemetery which is laid out as a park and is an artistic masterpiece. Here, leading sculptors built tombs for the country’s most famous personalities from the arts, culture and politics, including the grave of Franjo Tudjman. A narrow mountain road leads up to the Medvednica Nature Park, outside the city gates. The mediaeval Medvedgrad Fortress is a most striking and interesting attraction located in twenty three thousand hectares of natural landscape. Zagreb is a special city, unique, with a never-ending story, a city that has witnessed a thousand years and, due to its historic values, has become a European Capital Of Culture.

Travel video about destination Split in Croatia.
Split is the Croatian Republic’s second largest city and the financial and cultural centre of Dalmatia. It has a harbour for ferries, cruise liners and greets tourists from all over the world but the origin and importance of this city date back to Roman emperor, Diocletian who, planning for his retirement, wanted to build a grand property near to his hometown of Salona, a palace along the lines of a Roman castrum. The palace subsequently became an ancient city and the mausoleum a Christian cathedral to which a Venetian campanile was later added. An ingenious system of pillars, corridors, arches and vaulted ceilings, support the palace. Over the centuries, the large basement rooms remained almost untouched and only a few have been renovated. As the city above developed, the lower levels gradually became used as waste areas and eventually became inaccessible. In the west of the city, the Porta Ferrea, the Iron Gate, leads to the large Narodni Trg district which arose in the Middle Ages and was where rich patrician families built their city palaces in a grand mix of architectural styles. The historical centre of Split is a cultural work of art. The palace, its sea aspect and bay containing a harmonious blend of both ancient and mediaeval times.

Ljubljana is the capital of the young republic of Slovenia, a city of culture and history, elegance and charm. It is Slovenia’s ‘Florence’ situated between the Alps and the Balkans, the Adriatic and Lake Balaton. The Old Place, with a monument of national poet, Prešeren, is the gateway to the Old Town. With its pink marble façade, the Early Baroque Franciscan Church Of Mary dominates the square. The Dom Church Stolnica was built according to the design of Venetian, Andrea Pozzo in the 17th century. The interior of this Baroque church is quite overwhelming and with great attention to detail. Situated on the four hundred metre high Castle Hill, the Slovenian Acropolis was once inhabited by the Illyrians and Celts. The Roman watchtower later became both a strategic fortress and castle. A triumphal arch marks the entrance to the Žale Cemetery on the northeast edge of the city with a number of fine, richly decorated chapels. Here Jože Plečnik created a masterpiece that represented the transition from the world of the living, to the world of the dead. Columns flank the main path up to Tivoli Castle that was built by the Jesuits in the seventeenth century and soon became a summer residence of the bishops. Romantic lakes with water fowl and pretty flowers embellish the park, once the home of Field Marshal Radetzky. Ljubljana is a city of joie de vivre and pleasure where the Middle Ages, Baroque and Art Nouveau meet with the relaxed lifestyle of the south!

Travel video about destination Kerman in Iran.
Kerman is one of many ancient cities in today's Iran and is located on a plateau at the edge of the Lut Desert on an important caravan route. Ardashir, ruler of the Sassanids, founded the city, and its Friday Mosque was built during Mongolian rule. Following Islamic conquest, the city had many rulers. After Teheran and Yazd, Kerman has the third largest community of followers of the teachings of Zarathustra. The Ganj Ali-Khan Mosque is a small mosque that was named after the Safavid governor who ruled the city in the seventeenth century. The huge Vakil, or Regent Bazaar, has a seven hundred and fifty metre covered main alley that is always full of life. At any time of day almost everything can be purchased here under its brick vaults sheltered from the intense desert heat. In semi-darkness the ceilings of the bazaar streets contain an array of intriguing architectural designs and amazing ornaments. The centre of Kerman exudes its historic past as well as its former prosperity.

Islas Canarias, the ’islands of the dragon tree and happiness at the edge of the world’, lapped by the Atlantic Ocean. LANZAROTE is the archipelago’s fourth largest island at the southern end of which is Playa Blanca, once a fishing village and today a harbour. Rugged beauty born of fire and water, a volcanic paradise. FUERTEVENTURA is the second largest island of the Canary archipelago. In the extreme north of the island is Corralejo that developed into a ferry port and, within a few decades, a bustling holiday resort. GRAN CANARIA is the third largest of the seven Canary Islands. Las Palmas is the capital of the island and metropolis of the Canary archipelago, colourful and multicultural, with a great history. TENERIFE is known as the island of eternal spring. Santa Cruz De Tenerife, north east of the island, is its capital, port and commercial metropolis with classical buildings and splendid monuments that indicate its colourful past. The Canary Islands, a holiday paradise located in the shadow of dramatic volcanoes.

Travel video about destination Triglavski Narodni Park in Slovenia.
Slovenia’s Triglav National Park is located between the Julian Alps and Karavanke on the triangular border of Slovenia, Italy and Austria. The high rising Slovenian Alps are one of the most little known yet most beautiful alpine regions in Europe, a wild, natural paradise, reminiscent of an enchanted world and a unique mountain landscape of outstanding beauty. On a slope that leads down to the Trenta Valley is a monument that commemorates mountaineer and writer Doctor Julius Kugy who discovered both this location and the Julian Alps. The two thousand five hundred and eighty seven metre high Kanin Mountain near Bovec is typical of the park’s karst and limestone landscape with its bare slopes and bizarre rock formations. The highlight of this natural beauty is a high valley that contains seven lakes. The climb is rather testing but well worth it as wonderful alpine flora adorns the landscape. Many of the remarkable alpine flowers are endemic and can only be found in the high mountains. The Triglav National Park impresses with its magnificent, contrasting scenery and is a natural paradise in the very heart of Europe!

Travel video about destination Pltvicka Jezera in Croatia.
In the past four thousand years a spectacular natural wonder has been created along the extent of the Plitvice River in the border region of Croatia and Bosnia Herzegovina: deep blue and turquoise-green lakes, the Cascading Waters Of Plitvice. For seven kilometres, sixteen lakes have formed in a gorge, like the links of a chain, connected by various cascades and waterfalls. The sub-surface of the Dinaric Mountains consists mainly of water-permeable limestone. At first, rainwater disappears into the mountain and travels through its many subterranean labyrinths. In this way, over thousands of years, gorges and cave systems have gradually evolved. A boat service became necessary due to the increasing number of visitors that have come here since 1979 when the Plitvice Lakes were designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Plitvice Lakes: a constantly changing miracle of Nature!

Travel video about destination Yazd in Iran.
The ancient desert city of Yazd is located within the centre of the State Of Iran and is one of the country’s oldest cities, set like a string of pearls along the Kavir coast. It is also a centre for the followers of the Zarathustra faith, the pious predecessors of Islam who fled to the city to escape Arab persecution. A small square is situated in the middle of the Old Town district of Fahadan, flanked by historic buildings such as a prison where, according to legend, Alexander The Great held captive various Achaemenid dignitaries and which was later used as a school. The narrow streets of the historic Old Town mainly consist of mud-built buildings with partially covered corridors, domes and numerous wind towers. The maze of narrow streets in which several single-storey buildings are still inhabited has been designated as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. The city’s largest water storage tank is dominated by six wind towers that capture the slightest breeze that in turn cool down the stored water. Nearby, Agh-E-Dolat A-Bad, the magnificent palace residence of Mohamma Taqui Khan Bafqi who was Governor of Yazd from 1747 A.D. Yazd is not only an ancient culture, it is also an Oriental dream!

Travel video about destination Krka in Croatia.
The Krka River, and numerous lakes that contain natural dams, forms a border between North and Central Dalmatia, and travels seventy five kilometres through the Croatian hills. The best way to experience the river is by boat upstream from Lake Visovac to Roški Slap. Above Roški Slap, and before the water plunges down to Lake Visovac, the calm and reflective waters of the national park make this landscape even more beautiful. The grey rock, with its layers of reddish marl, is reminiscent of Utah and Arizona which is why the German Winnetou films were shot in this area. Twelve kilometres from Šibenik and depending on the season, various large quantities of water crash down to the Prokljansko Jezero. The water makes its way through small forests and rock sediment that have formed one limestone sinter terrace after another. The masses of water gradually advance to the most spectacular travertin waterfall in Europe, Skradinski Buk. In the Krka, nature has created a wonder, an intriguing spectacle of both water and landscape.

Travel video about destination Slovenija.
Slovenia is a Central European country at the geographical intersection of three worlds, the Alps, the Mediterranean and the Pannonian Basin. Ljubljana is the capital of this young republic. The Old Place is considered to be the gateway to the Old Town which possesses grace, soul and charm. The Early Baroque Franciscan Church Of Mary was built in the middle of the seventeenth century and boasts a monumental main altar. In this area of the city, the Middle Ages meet with both Baroque and Art Nouveau. Our journey through the Triglav National Park begins on the northern edge of the triangular border of Slovenia, Italy and Austria, in Kranjska Gora, the best known and most well equipped ski resort in Slovenia. The Slap Peričnik in Sava Valley is one of the area’s many waterfalls and clearly demonstrates the mighty power of water. Where the foothills of the Alps descend to the Pannonian Basin, the longest underground cave railway in the world leads to the largest show cave in Slovenia. Postojnska Jama, a wonderworld of nature. For millions of years, large masses of water and the composition of the rock, have created this remarkable system of caves. Further south below the village of Škocjan is one of the most important cave systems in the world, the Škocjan Caves into which the Reka River has dug deep into the limestone. Here, nature has created a mysterious underground world: a labyrinth of caves, corridors and halls, decorated with stalactites of various shapes and sizes. In the middle of the barren karst landscape near Trieste is a wonderful forest and the world famous Lipica Horse Stud, since 1580 the original home of the Lipizzaner, and a sprawling estate where the famous white horses are bred, raised and trained. Romantic towns and mediaeval fortresses, mountains, caves, waterfalls and lakes, Slovenia is a secret treasure situated in the heart of Europe!

Travel video about destination Koeszeg in Hungary
The strategic location of the city of Köszeg in the west of Hungary once determined its fate. : Today Köszeg is one of Europe’s most beautiful castle cities and in the Old Town, the Gate Tower and Captain’s Residence of the main square immediately indicate the city’s long history. The whole of the main square is completely framed by picturesque Baroque buildings and their colourful facades. Köszeg survived World War II undamaged and so it is not surprising that it is known as the most beautiful city in the region. With its gate-tower, the imposing Heroes Gate provides access to the Main Square. Although built in 1932 to commemorate the four hundredth anniversary of the Turkish Siege, it blends in perfectly with the surroundings. For the Austrian Habsburgs, Köszeg acted as a bulwark designed to defend Vienna from attack by the Turks, and it worked. The impressive remains of the Synagogue, built in 1859, are a reminder of the city’s former large Jewish community. Köszeg is a jewel of history, a fairy tale idyll!

Travel video about destination Pula in Croatia.
Situated close to the southern tip of the Istrian Peninsula in Coatia, is Pula, the oldest city on the eastern Adriatic coast. In Roman times the large square of this historic centre contained a forum and has many buildings that reflect the city’s recent history, including the Renaissance Town Hall that was built in 1296 at the end of Constantinople rule. Next to the Town Hall is the well-preserved Temple Of Augustus that dates back to 14 A.D. and was dedicated to the Roman Emperor. Prior to Roman times, it was Greek historians who first mentioned Pula in connection with a city founded by the Argonauts. Pula’s monumental Roman amphitheatre today ranks among the six largest of those that once belonged to the Roman Empire. The one hundred and five metre wide structure could accommodate twenty three thousand spectators. Numerous games and executions took place within it until 404 A.D. when gladiatorial battles were forbidden and the arena became a market place. Pula is a city of Roman roots, Byzantine monuments, past Venetian rule and recent K. and K. memories: an intriguing blend of history!

Travel video about destination Macaronesia in Central Atlantic.
Macaronesia is a group of islands in the middle of the Central Atlantic located between America and Europe. Many of the islands are inhabited and each one has its own character. In spite of the large distances that separate the islands, both their wildlife and plant life are similar and each island is of volcanic origin. São Miguel is gateway to the Azores and is the largest and most densely populated island. The island’s capital, Ponta Delgada, boasts magnificent churches and monasteries plus a well-stocked market. Faial is one of the most visited islands in the archipelago and whose marina is well known throughout the world. Horta is the island’s capital and since 1976 has also been the seat of the Azores’ parliament. Madeira, the island of eternal springtime. A floating garden in the Atlantic with colourful flowers, wild beauty and exotic scents. Funchal is its capital. The city’s black and white paved main square is framed by three important historic buildings:the Town Hall, Bishop's Palace and the Jesuit College with its magnificent church. The Islas Canarias, islands of the dragon tree and happiness at the edge of the world! Lanzarote is the fourth largest island. At the southern end of the island is Playa Blanca with superb beaches and pristine bays. Cabo Verde is a tropical archipelago off the coast of Africa. In the north east of the islands is Sal, an island of both wind and sunshine. It is hard to believe that all this is set within the Mid-Atlantic. Each island is unique and with its own special charm. Macaronesia is an island world of indescribable beauty, charm, unspoiled nature and dramatic landscapes.

Travel video about destination Dubrovnik in Croatia.
Within the southernmost archipelago of Dalmatia is one of the most fascinating harbour cities of the young republic of Croatia, Dubrovnik, a breathtaking Mediterranean city with a great history. The "city of stone" had its heyday in the Middle Ages and was one of the most important economic and cultural centres in the Mediterranean. An ancient courtyard gate leads to the Old Town and to Luža Square, the city’s main square that contains a fine clock tower and splendid palace Loggia. The sixteenth century Sponza Palace consists of a combination of designs, including both Gothic and Renaissance, and once contained the Customs House and Mint. Despite much foreign rule, the city largely succeeded in being autonomous. Velika Gospa Cathedral was built between 1672 and 1713 on the ruins of a Romanesque basilica. According to legend, Richard The Lionheart was shipwrecked in the city on his return from the Third Crusade and his financial donation made it possible to build the city’s first church. From the thirteenth century the city was fortified with powerful walls that now rank among the largest, and also the most beautiful, in the whole of Europe. Dubrovnik is, amazingly, still a storybook city with all the flair of the Middle Ages. A treasure trove of history and undisputed Pearl Of The Adriatic.

Travel video about destination Rovinj in Croatia.
The historic centre of Rovinj is located on a shell-shaped peninsula on Istria’s Mediterranean coastline in the north of Croatia. Seen from the sea it is one of the most stunning of the Adriatic’s port cities, harmonious and compact, a perfect cityscape. In the eighteenth century the city’s inhabitants built their basilica according to the plans of Venetian architect, Giovanni Dozzi, on the foundation of a previous Romanesque building. The bright interior of the imposing three-nave basilica contains splendid architecture, fine ceiling paintings and altars. Although Rovinj fell for a long time under the protection of the naval power of Venice, it was still haunted by the Genoese, pirates and pestilence, but the city managed to survive all of its tribulations and was designated as a cultural monument in 1963. The wealthy people of ancient Rome once thought of the region as a holiday paradise and so it has remained right up until the present day. The romantic Pearl Of The Croatian Riviera has lost nothing of its original charm. Rovinj encapsulates history, culture and beauty!

In 1868, Bavarian King Ludwig The Second had a dream come true in Allgäu, southern Germany: Castle Neuschwanstein, the realisation of his amazing world of fantasy situated close to Castle Hoch-Schwangau where as a child the king had immersed himself in German mythology. The fairytale castle was seventeen years in construction and in every way the idyll of ancient German knighthood, a union of both castle and its surroundings. The dining room is full of paintings that depict scenes from Wartburg at the time of the legendary Singer War. The centre of the room is dominated by a massive table top made of gilded bronze, Siegfried and his fight with the dragon, good against evil. The Throne Hall is a most magnificent and impressive room, two storeys high with lateral rows of columns and a gilded apse which is reminiscent of the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul. The monumental Singer Hall is the castle’s largest and most important room. It was built for the operas of Richard Wagner. The tall, wooden coffered ceiling features numerous images as well as the signs of the zodiac. The ballroom of the Wartburg is full of motifs of Parzival, Lohengrin and King Arthur and his Round Table. The castle absorbed vast amounts of money and created massive royal debts that finally resulted in tragedy. During the night of June 12th, 1886, Ludwig The Second was arrested, declared deposed and taken to Castleberg. Barely forty eight hours later he died at the age of forty under mysterious circumstances in Lake Starnberg. A royal legacy, Castle Neuschwanstein is now one of the world’s most famous buildings.

The tapered strip that runs south along the Croatian coast of the Adriatic Mediterranean, is named Dalmatia, the sunny balcony of Europe, with ancient cities, atmospheric ruins and a wonderful maze of romantic islands. A ferry travels from the small coastal town of Biograd to Pašman Island, a popular weekend destination for those living on the mainland. The garden island of Pašman is not yet on the tourist trail and thus is a tranquil location where monks still inhabit the ideally situated Benedictine monastery of Sveti Kozma I Damjan. Dugi Otok Island is well known for two natural phenomena: its mile-long and up to a hundred and sixty metre high white coastal cliffs and the Mir Jezero, a salt water lake which is always around six degrees warmer than the sea. The picturesque old city of Trogir is situated on a small island which is connected to the mainland by a bridge and protected by sturdy walls and a fortress. In 380 B.C., Greeks from Issa settled there and founded the fortified city of Tragyrion. Under the Romans it became a thriving commercial port. Today, Split is the Croatian Republic’s second largest city, the financial and cultural centre of Dalmatia, its origin and importance dating back to Roman emperor, Diocletian. Dubrovnik, the historic Pearl Of The Adriatic, is one of the world’s most fascinating harbour cities, a city of stone whose heyday was the Middle Ages when it was one of the most important economic and cultural centres in the Mediterranean. Dalmatia,... a veritable paradise of dreamy islands and historic cities!

Travel video about destination Kornati in Croatia.
The captivating world of Kornati is located off Croatia’s north Dalmatian Coast, a hundred and forty seven islands, an Adriatic paradise! As it is only accessible by boat, we begin in Biograd to a magical world of cliffs, coves, underwater caves and small rocky islands. A large section of the archipelago, which extends for two hundred and thirty four square kilometres, was designated as a national park in 1980. Of this, sixty nine square miles are islands the remainder being a maritime reserve with amazingly rich marine fauna. Školj Mountain is the highest point on Dugi Otok Island and is well known for two natural phenomena: its mile-long and up to one hundred and sixty metre high white coastal cliffs and the Mir Jezero, a salt water lake. On the last day of Creation, God crowned His work by creating Kornati, out of tears, the cosmos and a whisper of breath. Kornati, one of the most beautiful water worlds on Earth!

Travel video about nature park Triglavski Noradni Park.
The Triglav National Park begins on the northern edge of the triangular border of Slovenia, Italy and Austria in Kranjska Gora. This, the best known and most well equipped ski resort in Slovenia, is growing in popularity each year, including the summer months. The first mountain massifs of the Julian Alps reflect in the small Lake Jansa which lies just beyond Kranjska Gora en route to the Vrsic Pass. The high rising Slovenian Alps are one of the most little known yet most beautiful alpine regions in Europe, a mysterious, unspoiled landscape and the realm of the zlatorog, a goat with golden horns! In this natural paradise, Europe’s wildest and most romantic river is born, the Soca, the ‘emerald’ river. Geologically, the landscape of the Upper Soca is relatively young and rugged with deep cut valleys and few flat areas. Its characteristic appearance was formed by the action of a glacier and water erosion formed a valley. Near Bovec, the Koritnica Valley begins and ascends to Italy’s, Passo Del Predil. A tranquil valley end with wonderful views and a few small villages which are romantic in summer but that can be treacherous in winter. Each summer an historic steam train travels through the Triglav National Park and both the Baca and Soca Valleys to Nova Gorica, a wonderful journey on a slow train through a green and fertile landscape. Near Lake Bohinj is the park’s cultural landscape, an experiment that seems to be a success. The tranquil village of Stara Fuzina is situated on the gentle and sun blessed slopes of the Triglav Mountains where both agriculture and nature conservation are closely related and the farms have been preserved in all of their past glory. The Triglav National Park impresses with its beautiful, contrasting scenery, bare mountains, deep valleys, wild water, blossoming alpine flowers, high mountains as well as breathtaking waterfalls and glacial lakes. Truly a natural paradise in the heart of Europe!
